Hey, I'm Jordan Torres, a 17 year old game developer from Michigan. I started programming when I was 12 on a TI-83 plus calculator. I found it amazing all the little programs I could make!
I didn't do much other programming till I was 15 and was put into a robotics class after the drafting class I signed up for was canceled. One the best things to ever happen to me! In that class I got to learn about real programming and mess around with an Arduino uno and other programmable machines.
That summer I Decided to learn web development by myself.. with a little help from youtube.. or maybe a lot.. I learned enough to making decent looking websites. All through junior year I did web development but it died down when the school year started.
Summer of junior year I learned Python, and I loved coding back-end. So much more control than web development (i didn't learn much java), it was a reminder of how it felt to code on the calculator and it was great. Senior year I dual enrolled at a local community college and to a python course.. a mistake as the class was painfully slow as I already knew a lot about python. However it did help me learn how to clean up code and stay more organized.
For the second semester at the Community College I took a web-design course.. yes it was also painful but helped me in the same way that the python course did.
During the same time I was researching the math behind artificial intelligence and it interested me a lot. I had to learn a lot of math and calculus that I didn't understand but eventually I coded an AI that was able to learn and play Flappy bird perfectly all in python, only using the pygame library.
Then as COVID-19 approached and I finally bought a graphics card for my PC (yes I built a PC without a gpu bc I couldn't afford one lol) I could finally run unity, and that's when game development began for me. Oh and at the end of july I started learning Godot.
